On the Salahis

If they’ve committing a crime, they should be punished.  But, like a benign hacker who does no harm other than point out your own security failings, if a thorough investigation reveals that they had no nefarious intent, it should be taken as a point of mitigation.  The real felons are those who mean harm, and throwing the book at those who don’t doesn’t seem likely to dissuade those who do.  If we don’t tolerate a little relatively harmless stupidity, how will we ever deal with major issues?  Who knows, maybe we’ll even discover a few of our own failings—something positive.  Let’s take a lesson and move on.
As for calling the admittance of this less-than-dynamic duo a “Maj. Hassan moment,” commentators would do well to wait for the results of the investigation before passing judgment.
